The Story Behind Elk

Before you throw anything away, give her a call.

A house full of belongings can leave you wondering where to begin. Elizabeth Medwick's advice? Before you start throwing things away, give her a call. There may be more value there than you think.

Elizabeth founded Elk Estate Sales to help families with estate sales and downsizing in Lake Charles, Sulphur, and Southwest Louisiana. She brings practical experience, a sharp eye for overlooked value, and a straightforward approach: understand what's there, explain what's involved, and get to work.

Her interest began during childhood summers with her grandparents in New York and New Jersey. Shopping trips were an education in beautiful old things. She learned to recognize pieces, appreciate their craftsmanship, and listen to the stories behind them. Back in Louisiana, that curiosity kept growing.

Years later, walking through estate sales in New Orleans, those early lessons clicked into place. She knew what she was looking at, and discovering something special still gave her a thrill. She kept asking questions, gathering knowledge, and eventually putting that experience to work running estate sales herself.

Her background also includes professional dance, work as a paralegal, and creating art and jewelry. After moving to Southwest Louisiana, she focused on raising her children. Her return to estate sale work began with helping friends. People needed help, she knew what to do, and Elk grew from there.

There's a reason somebody kept it.

Elizabeth loves a beautiful antique. She also knows to look in the garage.

Tools, dishes, artwork, collections, and everyday belongings all tell you something about the person who owned them. What looks unremarkable to one person may be exactly what someone else has been searching for. Knowing what deserves another look is part of the work she enjoys most.

Elizabeth helps families prepare their belongings for sale and connect them with the right buyers. She also looks for opportunities to sell remaining items after the main sale. If there's still value to be found, she wants to give the family a chance to benefit from it.

She takes that responsibility seriously. Ask a question, and you'll get a straight answer. If something needs a specialist's opinion, she'll say so. And before the work begins, she'll explain what she can do and what you can expect.
